FIRST TRIP TO ICELAND :: REYKJAVIK, WATERFALLS & NORTHERN LIGHTS ♥
Hi cuties ♥
I had been wanting to see Iceland for many years (mainly to see the northern lights a.k.a. aurora borealis) and I finally got to go. I only did a stopover on my way to Europe and I definitely did not plan enough time to explore the country as much as I would have liked. I was only there for 3 days and it was definitely not enough. Regardless, I still got to knock a few things off the bucket list.
I got to visit the blue lagoon (a definite must). I have read other blogs and reviews online saying that it is a tourist trap, etc etc...but I thought it was amazing. It is fairly expensive, ab $50 USD per person (everything is expensive in Iceland)and you must reserve your appointment ahead of time but it is a very unique and lovely experience. Bring your bathing suit, towel, bathing products & flip flops. They do rent towels and robes but it is very expensive.
I also drove down from Reykjavik to the south coast of the country. There is a lot of nothingness, fields of sheep and wild ponies and then some amazing waterfalls. I got to see one of the famous waterfalls of Iceland, Skógafoss. It was pretty epic. I have seen quite a few waterfalls but this one constantly had rainbows popping up in front of it, pretty cool.
It was mostly cloudy and gray the whole time that I was in Reykjavik, which is typical I think. In the south it would rain and then the sun would come out and shine very bright. The first two nights that I was there, it was extremely cloudy. However, on the third night, the skies cleared up just a little and I was so lucky to see the aurora borealis!
It was so amazing and breathtaking. I took my tripod and set it up and attempted to get some photographs of it but it was too fleeting and I was too close to the city lights. I froze my butt off for 2 hours waiting and watching to see something. I ended up having about 3 sightings for a few minutes each. I definitely would like to go back and see the lights in the middle of nowhere.
Here are a few of my favorite photographs from the trip....
